Honey Wonderful, Creative You:

By at present you are probably aware that I am in beloved with small format art, and perhaps I've fifty-fifty managed to give you the bug too. Possibly, you've signed up for my new grade, Fluid Art, which teaches how to use loftier menses acrylics on tiny pieces three inches or less and you are eagerly awaiting it's release Monday, July 10th. (Yes, Monday!) But maybe you are new here, or perhaps you haven't yet experimented with tiny art to see how it strikes y'all and how it might affect your creative cocky-care exercise. Either way, I'd similar to invite you to consider some of the benefits of small art.

The Benefits of Working Small

Let me tell you lot a bit almost why I believe in the ability of working small. Of course I understand that information technology may not be for everyone, nothing is, but before y'all close yourself off, I'd invite you to stay open up to the possibilities.

Many of usa struggle to discover the time and motivation to create. Work, family, business firm cleaning, and other responsibilities seem to become in the mode and always have priority. Making art oft feels like an art "project," or task – instead of a joy or a release – information technology takes a large chunk of fourth dimension to fix, complete, and clean up. If I approached my art exercise this mode, I don't think I'd make a tenth of the fine art I brand.

A large part of what I teach you to exercise through the Fluid Art procedure is to weave shorter art making sessions into your twenty-four hours, in a natural way. I've seen how if you piece of work modest, bear a portable fine art kit, work in stages, focus on process instead of production, and produce a lot of little works, art becomes an ongoing, accessible, and relaxing process that yields deeply satisfying, soulful fine art. I'd love for you to develop this practice too.

Tips for Doing the Inchie Challenge:

To help kicking off the release of Fluid Fine art, I'm running an "Inchie Challenge." Participating is very simple. Simply create an art piece that is ii inches or smaller. You might like to take information technology to the next level and pay attention to your experience while you lot work – What comes up for you working small?  What do you notice virtually what you hear? Feel? See? Can you hear your animate? Can y'all feel the pressure of the pen or brush in your fingers? This is a way of making your art making a mindful, soothing act. Or, you can but let go and encounter what flows out. There'south no right or wrong way to create.

Hither's some tips for working small that I've found very helpful for weaving more art into my life:

  • Work small: Use a ane to ii inch slice of paper.
  • Pre-cut your "inchies:" This has helped me to create at a moment's find
  • Forget perfectionism: Your job is non to brand "gorgeous art," its to show up and brand something inside of that inch, even if information technology'south simply a colour.
  • Carry a portable art kit: I carry some simple supplies andinchies for creating on the become – I create in the automobile, while the h2o boils, and all those in between moments- information technology's merely an inch after all! (Learn more nearly portable art kits here.)
  • Explore a new medium – Employ the inchie challenge as an alibi to effort a new supply or technique such as watercolor, ink, hand drawn patterns, or tiny cartoon animal drawings. Of course if you are taking the class, post those mini masterpieces!
